WIFT TORONTO ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF CBC BUSINESS OF BROADCASTING MENTORSHIP

Women in Film & Television (WIFT Toronto) is thrilled to announce the recipients of 2023’s CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship. The two Toronto producers, Zeynep Güler-Tuck and Paula Sanderson, completed their exclusive mentorship in May.

The CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship, now in its 17th year, seeks emerging Canadian screen based media professionals passionate about production and development with a focus on scripted broadcast content.

Güler-Tuck and Sanderson received comprehensive one-on-one sessions with expert CBC staff, learned  how the public broadcaster operates behind-the-scenes, what motivates decisions behind programming, and were informed on how various departments interconnect.

Zeynep Güler-Tuck is a creative producer and writer with over 20 years of experience that has spanned markets, industries, and regions. She led web series, newsworthy editorials, and broadcast spots with  Microsoft News, NBC, CBS, Time Out, Lonely Planet, and Corus Entertainment. Since then, Güler-Tuck  has transitioned into film and TV as a creator and a development executive with Your Ad Here Productions, Inc. and undertook impactful work as the head of content production for Elevate. She is currently the founder and creative producer of Özlü Creative + Community.

Paula Sanderson is a television producer with an eye for authentic storytelling and extensive experience in factual entertainment. She is the social media manager for Frantic Films/CBC’s hit show Still Standing.  Sanderson has worked with many leading Canadian media companies, including WildBrain, marblemedia, Insight Productions, Breakthrough Entertainment, and Blue Ant Media. She is pursuing an MBA at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University. Sanderson also holds a Bachelor’s of Journalism from the University of King’s College and a Postgraduate Certificate in Television Writing and Producing from Humber College.

“We’re blown away by the tenacity, enthusiasm, and experience that Paula and Zeynap brought,” said Laurie Januska, Director of Programming, WIFT Toronto. “Both demonstrate a deep knowledge of the  industry and its many facets, making them ideal candidates to support through this mentorship. This also marks 17 years of partnership between CBC and WIFT Toronto, for which we’re grateful; it has allowed so many WIFT Toronto members to take their careers to the next level.”

"We are always looking for opportunities to support and nurture women across the industry, and thanks  to our ongoing partnership with WIFT Toronto, the CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship is a key  program that aims to elevate women in media to the next level of their career," said Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President, CBC. "A big congratulations to Paula and Zeynep; we hope that the mentorship allows you to further build on your impressive experience, and we look forward to seeing what you do next."
