CBC SPORTS TO PROVIDE EXTENSIVE COVERAGE OF THE 2023 WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS, AUGUST 19-27

CBC Sports Presents coverage begins Saturday, August 19 at 2 pm ET (11 am PT) on CBC Gem and CBC 

All events to be streamed live on CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports app

Live weekday broadcasts hosted by Anastasia Bucsis to stream daily beginning Monday, August 21

CBC Sports digital show Athletics North hosted by Rob Pizzo to provide recaps daily 

Canadian track and field stars include Marco Arop, Jerome Blake, Aaron Brown, Andre De Grasse, Pierce LePage, Sarah Mitton, Alysha Newman, Camryn Rogers and Damian Warner 

 CBC Sports is bringing audiences across the country all of the action from the World Athletics Championships as the exclusive Canadian home of the high intensity track and field competitions taking place in Budapest, Hungary from Saturday, August 19 through Sunday, August 27. All events, including preliminary and qualifying sessions, will be livestreamed on CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports App for iOS and Android devices, with broadcast coverage also available on CBC Gem and CBC TV as part of CBC Sports Presents weekend programming. Coverage on CBC Sports Presents kicks off on Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20 at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT) on CBC Gem and CBC TV with host Scott Russell breaking down the first days of the competition. Commentary and analysis will be provided by award-winning commentator Mark Lee; Olympian Kate Van Buskirk; Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games decathlon champion Michael Smith; Olympian and World Champion hurdler Perdita Felicien;and two-time Olympic champion and three-time World Champion sprinter Donovan Bailey.CBC Sports’ Andi Petrillo will be trackside in Hungary. From Monday, August 21 through Friday, August 25, Buskirk, Felicien and Petrillo will join host Anastasia Bucsis for live daily coverage available across CBC Sports digital platforms (CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports app). Broadcast coverage continues on CBC Gem and CBC TV the following weekend (August 26-27). 

For those looking for additional analysis, news and updates, Athletics North is the home for track and field on CBC Sports. Hosted by Rob Pizzo and featuring insights from track and field experts, the popular digital series available on CBC Sports YouTube and cbcsports.ca, will offer daily recaps and lookaheads throughout the competition. In the latest episode, Pizzo sits down with three-time multi-sport Olympian Phylicia George to talk about what to expect from the Canadian contingent at the World Athletics Championships.

The World Athletic Championships bring together the world’s best athletes to compete at the highest level of international outdoor athletics, including track & field, marathon running, and race walking. This year’s competition will see 2100 athletes from 202 teams compete at Hungary’s new National Athletics Centre, including 55 Canadians looking to make an impact on the world stage. At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Canada brought home four medals: the men’s 4 x 100 metre relay team of Jerome Blake, Aaron Brown, Andre De Grasse and Brendon Rodney earned gold; Pierce LePage and Camryn Rogers secured silver medals in the men’s decathlon and women’s hammer throw, respectively; and Marco Arop capped the 800 metre season with a bronze medal performance.
