Wendy Ide, The Guardian

BLACK CONFLUX (100 min., Drama, directed by Nicole Dorsey, Canada)

Fifteen-year-old Jackie is a model student, but the legacy of a broken home has her surrendering to adolescent temptations. Continually plagued by the failures of the women of her family, her mindset  gradually shifts as she actively decides to escape a seemingly inevitable future. Dennis, socially inept and isolated by his inability to connect, escapes the reality of his solitude by imagining a fantasy world in which visions of adoring women surround him. These seemingly separate lives converge in this haunting exploration of womanhood, isolation, and toxic masculinity.

“a constant visual delight”

Stephen Dalton, The Hollywood Reporter

This bittersweet film is shaped by a poignant exploration of culture shock, humour and sadness.
