“These three series encompass the fresh storytelling, complex characters and standout performances that we seek out when expanding our collection of premium international series on CBC Gem,” said Jenna Bourdeau, Senior Director, Acquisitions, CBC. “We continue to build strong relationships with partners such as STUDIOCANAL, Viaplay Content Distribution and BBC Studios to ensure that Canadians can experience the best titles from around the world.”
CHEATERS is a sexy, messy comedy-drama about morality, monogamy and everything in between. A chance meeting after a cancelled flight leads to an unlikely night of drunken airport-hotel sex between late-twenties strangers Fola and Josh. The next morning, as they rush to make the rescheduled flight, both admit they have partners back home. They agree their night of passion was a mistake and go their separate ways. But life gets messy when Josh arrives home to find out Fola is his new neighbour.
CHEATERS was created by Oliver Lyttelton (Wedding Season) and stars Joshua McGuire (Lovesick, About Time), Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes, Crazyhead), Callie Cooke (Britannia, The Stranger) and Jack Fox (Riviera, Sanditon). Produced by Clerkenwell Films (Baby Reindeer, The End of the F***ing World) for BBC One; BBC Studios, who wholly own Clerkenwell Films, is handling global distribution.
In ALL AND EVA, Eva doesn't believe in love. She travels to Copenhagen to receive donor sperm to have a baby. The night before the big insemination, she has doubts about her choice of donor, and so she seeks him out, without revealing why. He's not a psychopath, and quite frankly, can she ask for any more than that? Problems first arise when the donor, Mads, in turn seeks Eva out in Stockholm, unaware that he is the father of her unborn child. The more time that passes and as their relationship progresses, not only does her belly grow, but so does her secret.
ALL AND EVA was created, written and directed by Johanna Runevard (Vi Forever, Kaos) and stars Tuva Novotny (Annihilation, Eat Pray Love), Joachim Fjelstrup (The Dreamer – Becoming Karen Blixen, Tove’s Room), Sanna Sundqvist (Call Mom!, Thank You, I’m Sorry) and Bengt Braskered (Familjen, Sound of Noise). Produced by Warner Bros. International Television Sweden for Viaplay, Viaplay Content Distribution is distributing the title internationally. ALL AND EVA had its world premiere at Series Mania 2024 where it was nominated for Best Series. It was also nominated for Best Comedy Show and Best Actress (Tuva Novotny) at the 2024 Kristallen Awards, Sweden’s television awards, where it also won Best Supporting Role for Bengt Braskered.
FAMILIES LIKE OURS is set in Denmark in a not-too-distant future, where the rising water levels can no longer be ignored and the country needs to be evacuated. As people disperse in all directions, they must bid farewell to what they love, what they know, and who they are. Slowly but steadily, everything changes. All property becomes worthless, all fortunes shift, and luck favours only a few. Those who can afford it travel to affluent countries while the less well-off depend on government-funded relocation to more challenging destinations. Families, friends, and loved ones are separated. Some will be overcome by hatred and division, while others will nurture love and foster new beginnings. Against this backdrop we meet Laura, a high school student in love for the first time and on the cusp of graduation. When news of the evacuation breaks, the course of Laura and her family's lives are changed forever, and Laura is forced into the impossible dilemma of choosing between the three people she loves the most.
FAMILIES LIKE OURS was created by Oscar winner Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round, The Hunt) and stars Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Riders of Justice, Angels & Demons), Paprika Steen (Applause, Okay) and Esben Smed (Bedrag, A Fortunate Man). Produced by Zentropa for TV 2 Denmark, STUDIOCANAL and CANAL+, FAMILIES LIKE OURS premiered this fall at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals and BFI London Film Festival.
