PRODUCTION UNDERWAY ON BIG FEMININE ENERGY FROM PEACOCK ALLEY ENTERTAINMENT AND CBC
New documentary explores life-changing impact of controversial femininity trends
Toronto, ON (May 5, 2025) – Production powerhouse Peacock Alley Entertainment and CBC, Canada’s national public broadcaster, today announced that filming is underway on Big Feminine Energy, a feature documentary that takes a bold look at how hotly debated femininity trends are shaping our global world. A 44-minute version will air as part of The Passionate Eye’s upcoming 2025-26 season on CBC and CBC Gem.
Amidst a broader cultural shift to reclaim traditional expressions of femininity, Big Feminine Energy goes inside movements like the new-age bimbo, trad wives, and the rise of OnlyFans, asking a central question: what’s helpful vs. harmful when it comes to women’s empowerment?
Spanning the stages of womanhood - from teenage girls to seniors - the documentary sheds light on the lived experiences of women across fashion, beauty, sports, sexual health, and pop culture. It aims to offer a thought-provoking look at the nuanced and often contradictory realities behind one of society’s most complex issues: feminine identity.
Through real, honest and deeply relatable conversations with a diverse group of women – including Canadian Olympic medalist Alysha Newman, Canada’s Queen of R&B Jully Black, music-video vixen Melyssa Ford, culture critic Rayne Fisher-Quann, Glamour Senior Editor Stephanie McNeal, and more – the film unpacks the forces shaping how femininity is expressed and perceived today.
“We’re in a moment where femininity is being both reclaimed and redefined,” says Carrie Mudd, President of Peacock Alley Entertainment. “This film isn’t about a single point of view – it’s about creating space for women to explore and express what femininity means to them, without judgement. We’re thrilled to be working with director Susan Schafer and partnering once again with CBC to examine this timely and deeply relevant aspect of women’s lived experience.”
“At CBC, we're committed to holding a mirror up to the evolving cultural landscape,” said Jennifer Dettman, Executive Director, Unscripted Content, CBC. “Big Feminine Energy dives headfirst into the dynamic and often contradictory forces shaping feminine identity today. This documentary is an invitation to a vital conversation about what it means to be a woman in our modern world."
Big Feminine Energy is Peacock Alley’s female companion to the Canadian Screen Award (CSA)-nominated docuseries Harder Better Faster Stronger, led by misinformation expert Timothy Caulfield, which premiered on CBC’s The Passionate Eye in October 2024 and explored the world of toxic male wellness culture. It’s the latest in a growing slate of premium documentaries from Peacock Alley Entertainment, whose recent premium documentaries include rom com series 50,000 First Dates: A True Story for Prime Global and If It Be Your Will, a moving tribute to Leonard Cohen by his son, Adam Cohen for CBC and Radio-Canada.
Big Feminine Energy is produced by Peacock Alley Entertainment. Executive Produced by Carrie Mudd and Directed by Susan Schafer. For CBC, Sally Catto is General Manager, Entertainment, Factual, & Sports; Jennifer Dettman is Executive Director, Unscripted Content; Sandra Kleinfeld is Senior Director, Documentary; and Michelle McCree is Executive in Charge of Production, CBC Docs and The Passionate Eye.
