New to CBC Gem in February 2026

Highlights of programs new to CBC Gem this February:

 

  • CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s Olympic network, will bring all the action and excitement of the XXV Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina to audiences across the country, from Friday, February 6 – Sunday, February 22. CBC’s extensive English-language coverage will feature live broadcasts from every venue and include every Canadian medal-winning moment, totalling more than 2,000 hours of live content across multiple platforms.
  • The Black Stories Collection highlights include the exclusive Canadian premieres of UK comedy Dreaming Whilst Black Season 2 (Feb. 1), as Kwabena steps into a new era of his professional career - the age of diversity, equity and inclusion, and Just Act Normal (Feb. 1), a UK comedy-drama following siblings trying to stay under the radar after their mother’s sudden disappearance - until her drug dealer shows up unexpectedly. Season 2 of Radio-Canada comedy series Lakay Nou (Feb. 1) celebrates the customs and culture of Quebec’s Haitian community through the eyes of a multi-generational family. Feature documentaries include Black Table (Feb. 1), exploring the experiences of eight Black students at Yale University in 1994; Skategoat (Feb. 1), about a young boy dreaming of becoming a pro skateboarder and leaving behind his crime-filled neighbourhood; and We Want the Funk! (Feb. 1), tracing the musical genre’s journey from its African and jazz roots to James Brown, set against the political and racial landscape of 1970s America. Feature film The Woman King (Feb. 6) stars Viola Davis in an epic inspired by the Agojie, the all-female warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s. 
  • In anticipation of Milano Cortina 2026 and winter sports on the ice and beyond, the Cold Competition Collection expands with the addition of documentary feature The White Mountain (Jan. 30), about two adventure athletes overcoming loss and injury on Mont Blanc, one of the world’s most dangerous mountains; docuseries We Were Broncos (Feb. 1), featuring former Humboldt Bronco hockey player and bus crash survivor Ryan Straschnitzki in a powerful story of resilience and recovery; and CBC original feature special RIVALS: The 4 Nations Face-Off (Feb. 5, also on CBC TV), exploring sports, culture, politics and Canadian national identity through the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament. 
  • Acclaimed international series highlights debuting in February include the exclusive Canadian premieres of UK/New Zealand thriller The Ridge (Feb. 27), as Scottish anaesthetist Mia Beaton, haunted by her past, must unravel the truth behind her sister’s mysterious death; Trigger Point Season 3 (Feb. 27), which sees Lana Washington and her team confronting a bomb threat that quickly reveals itself to be a twisted revenge plot; and Worlds Apart (Feb. 27), a heartwarming lifestyle series pairing well-travelled seniors with teens who have never left their home country, as they embark on a life-changing journey abroad.
  • Documentary highlights also include The Nature of Things’ The Berg (Feb. 26, also on CBC TV), following the extraordinary journey of one remarkable iceberg; and short doc Lobster Queen (Feb. 25).
  • Canadian feature films arriving on CBC Gem in February include Fitting In (Feb. 13), a comedy-drama starring Maddie Ziegler as a teenager whose dating life is upended after learning she has an unusual condition, and Filipino-Canadian drama Altar Boy (Feb. 27), about a teenager struggling to navigate the school year and break free from his religious upbringing. South Korean film Broker (Feb. 20), the 2022 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize winner by Hirokazu Kore-eda, follows a broker of unwanted babies who encounters a mother who wants her infant back.

On one side are Myrlande, Henri and their three children. On the other, Manmi and Papi, Henri's parents. But above all, there are three generations whose values clash! Three cultural variations... Three clans within one family. A series written, directed and performed by Quebec artists from the Haitian community who want to laugh at themselves while paying tribute to their roots. 

 

Skategoat

Leandre Sanders was born in LA into a world of gangs and crime. The only thing that kept him out of trouble was his love of skateboarding. While his older brothers joined the family tradition of running with gangs, Leandre - dubbed Skategoat - spent most of his days and nights at Venice Beach skatepark with his younger brother Leontay. He was so talented and determined that, at the age of 11, he caught the eye of filmmaker Van Alpert. Also featuring skateboarding icon Tony Hawk.

 

We Want the Funk!

We Want the Funk! is a syncopated voyage through funk’s history, from its African and jazz roots to James Brown’s early work and the rise of Parliament Funkadelic. Distinctly urban, funk reflected a post-Civil Rights sensibility. The film explores the symbiotic relationship between funk’s explosion and the political and racial dynamics of 1970s inner-city America. Featuring American musicians Marcus Miller, Robert ‘Kool’ Bell, Puerto Rican guitarist Carlos Alomar and more.

 

The Woman King

The Woman King tells the remarkable story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen. The tragic bus crash on April 6, 2018, in Saskatchewan that killed 16 and injured 13 members of the Humboldt Broncos junior ice hockey team forever changed the lives of those involved. But after the crash, he had to adapt to a new athletic goal of becoming a wheelchair basketball player while completely changing his lifestyle.

The Nature of Things: The Berg

The Berg explores the journey of one particular iceberg, from its stunning birthplace at the Eqi Glacier in southwestern Greenland, to its eventful life on Canada’s east coast. Hosted by Sarika Cullis-Suzuki and featuring celebrated Canadian cave diver and underwater explorer, Jill Heinerth, the documentary captures the beauty of an iceberg as seen from the land, from the air, and from below the water. The Berg reveals the ecosystem that exists around these magnets for marine life, and explores the dangers they can pose to the shipping industry.

What’s more, when Dana transforms her backpack, the dinosaurs think she’s one of them – allowing her to get close to the action!
