- CBC News to Expand National Business and Finance Coverage, Supported by a New Studio in Downtown Calgary and 16 New Journalism Roles -
CBC today announced CBC Money, a new slate of original content dedicated to personal finance and money matters launching in 2027. CBC Money will feature a wide range of programming across entertainment and news directly related to the day-to-day lives and bank accounts of Canadians.
CBC Money will include expanded national financial news coverage, supported by a new CBC News studio and nine-person team in downtown Calgary and five new business reporters to be hired in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax. Another two producers will support them from Toronto. CBC Money will also feature a new video series from CBC Radio’s Cost of Living hosted by Paul Haavardsrud, connecting the dots between the economy and everyday life to offer practical business and money tips that Canadians can put into action. New personal finance entertainment shows including new podcasts will be announced in the near future.
“With CBC Money, we will move beyond market updates and boardroom chatter, delivering essential stories of money-planning strategies and financial resilience to help Canadians make more informed decisions,” said Brodie Fenlon, General Manager and Editor in Chief of CBC News. “Placing this new focus on personal finance outside of Canada's big financial centres - with reporters across the country, a core Calgary team and a new studio location in that city - will help us broaden our news coverage of the country’s diverse economy and the forces that impact everyday Canadians.”
“CBC Money will serve audiences across Canada with programming that offers insights and information as well as relatable experiences and personal stories, exploring all aspects of how money touches our daily lives and our relationships,” said Sally Catto, General Manager, Entertainment, CBC. “From broadcast and streaming series to audio storytelling, the CBC Money entertainment offering will explore the humanity behind the numbers.”
The CBC Money programming slate will be scheduled and offered across TV, radio, audio and streaming, and compiled through dedicated digital destinations on CBC.ca, the CBC News App and CBC Gem, curating the best stories and analysis for Canadians.
CBC Money will also feature content from CBC’s ongoing slate of programs focused on money matters, including Dragons’ Den, Go Public, Marketplace, coverage by the CBC News business units based in Toronto and Calgary and the “Mind Your Business” newsletter, as well as CBC Kids program Street Cents.
