CBC will be on the road, online and broadcasting live from within Canada’s communities with election coverage that engages Canadian voters
CBC News’ exclusive interviews with Canada’s major political party leaders drew 4.7 million Canadians to The National with Peter Mansbridge. Throughout this election campaign, CBC will continue to bring relevant, timely election coverage to Canadians, as follows:
- Peter Mansbridge will be in downtown Vancouver tonight, Monday Sept. 14, for a special edition of CBC News-The National which will focus on voters in B.C. and how they can make a difference to the outcome of the election.
- On Tuesday, Sept. 22, CBC Radio One’s The Current will broadcast from Calgary. Slumping oil prices have cost at least 35,000 jobs in Alberta’s oil patch, and pundits are not expecting a rebound in oil prices. Anna Maria Tremonti will be in Calgary to find out how the economy is affecting the federal election.
- CBC is inviting Canadians to come to the CBC Toronto Broadcast Centre to participate in our election coverage. The Voter’s Studio is a new set in the lower atrium of the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto. The public is invited to visit the new election set and spend time there in the run-up to the election.
-Starting Sept. 21, CBC News Network will begin each day at 6 a.m. with Heather Hiscox live on location in the Voter’s Studio for the morning show which will air right up to October 20—the day after the election.
- Canadians can also experience live broadcasts of The World This Hour on CBC Radio One and meet new host Tom Harrington in the Voter’s Studio the week of Sept 21.
-Power and Politics with host Rosemary Barton will air live on location from the Voter’s Studio in Toronto, broadcasting its regular schedule from Oct 14, to October 19.
- Power and Politics has seen a record number of viewers this summer—a 51 per cent increase compared to this time last year (*source: Numeris). An extra program focusing exclusively on the 2015 federal election will continue to air on Sundays up to election day.
-The National with Wendy Mesley will be broadcasting live from Quebec City on Sunday Sept. 27.
- CBC News Network’s morning show with Heather Hiscox will be broadcasting live on location from Niagara Falls on Thursday, Oct. 1.
- Also on Oct. 1, CBC Radio One’s Susan Bonner will be in Edmonton for a live broadcast of The World at 6.
- Peter Mansbridge will host The National on location in St. John’s on Monday, Oct. 5.
- CBC News Network with Heather Hiscox will be broadcasting live on location in the Brampton/Mississauga region on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
CBC will also be criss-crossing the country, listening to Canadians and covering the issues that matter to them. World Report host David Common continues his cross-Canada trek as he heads to communities throughout the country, to speak to Canadians live on location for a special segment “Off The Trail” for The National which airs on Sundays. The National will also continue to air the special daily segment, Voters of Canada, exploring the campaign through the eyes of individual Canadians. CBC Radio One’s Day 6 will also continue to broadcast its series #myriding throughout the election. Host Brent Bambury will be talking to Canadians about the issues in their particular communities and how those issues will affect how they cast their votes.
Online, CBC News’ popular tool, Vote Compass, has been used more than half a million times since its launch on Aug. 31, and continues to be a go-to destination for Canadians who want to explore where they really sit on the political spectrum in relation to the major parties.
Following the success of Vote Compass, CBC will also be engaging Canadian voters with an interactive challenge, powered by Google, in the coming weeks.
