Locals Welcome is available Sundays on CBC Gem (9pm, 9:30 NT on CBC TV).
Locals Welcome is a CBC docuseries celebrating the lesser known food places that make up the fabric of Canada’s rich and diverse communities. Hosted by food writer Suresh Doss, the series takes food down off the pedestal and puts it back where it belongs: in a take out container. Outside a strip mall. On the hood of a parked car. Locals Welcome marries Anthony Bourdain’s love of food and culture, with Canadians’ love of being introduced to exciting new dishes and cuisines. All in our own backyard.
Helmed by Suresh’s expertise, Locals Welcome explores the rich cultural history of Canadian immigrant communities – and how each community continues to enrich the story of Canada’s “food mosaic” – that makes Canada the one of a kind country it is.
Locals Welcome is a format created by UltraBoom Media, who also serve as Executive Producers of the series.
