CBC NEWS LETS YOU EXPERIENCE D-DAY LIVE ON JUNE 5th and 6th

D-DAY LIVE Recreates the Events of D-Day in a Special Multiplatform Project

On June 5th and 6th, World War II veterans and world leaders will come together in France to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day. To mark this historic event, CBC News launches the special multiplatform project D-DAY LIVE.

Imagine going back in time 70 years to June 6, 1944, and reliving the events of D-Day in real time. Using modern technology, CBC News will help you do exactly that. CBC News will be re-creating the events of this pivotal World War II event in an interactive breaking news timeline, online and on CBC News Network, CBC Radio, and during CBC Television live special programming. If World War II had happened in a multi-media era, this is how CBC News would have covered it.

D-DAY LIVE is a modern approach for a new generation who will be able to engage with this historic event in real time using new media,” said Michael Gruzuk, executive producer of CBC News Specials and Programs. “D-DAY LIVE is a truly powerful experience that should let Canadians relive D-Day as if it were unfolding on the beaches of Normandy today. We’re very proud of the work we’ve done, and we think Canadians will connect with this re-production of D-Day as the events unfolded.”

To mount this unparalleled project, CBC journalists have pieced together crucial moments from archives, as well as documenting new stories, anecdotes and never-before-seen artifacts and images. Starting on June 5th, CBC News will release bulletins about what unfolded at each given moment 70 years ago, featuring archival video, audio and images.

You can follow @CBCDDayLive on Twitter and watch as we tweet a moment-by-moment account of the battle. You can also go to CBCNews.ca and see the day’s events on our D-Day media wall. On CBC News Network and CBC Radio, select events will be broadcast at the moment that they happened. And on June 6th, CBC News chief correspondent Peter Mansbridge will host a live anniversary special from Normandy, featuring D-DAY LIVE highlights on-screen in real-time.
