CBC'S LIVE RIGHT NOW FEEDS 100,000 HUNGRY CANADIAN FAMILIES

By pledging to eat together more often, dedicated families across the country
helped achieve Live Right Now’s goal of feeding 100,000 families in need.

CBC’s LIVE RIGHT NOW is proud to announce that thanks to the commitment and dedication of families across the country, we have fed 100,000 Canadian families in need. In less than three months, thousands of Canadians made the Bring Healthier Home pledge to eat together more often. By creating healthier habits they not only helped themselves, they helped others in need. This achievement marks the third consecutive year that LIVE RIGHT NOW has helped make a difference in the health of our country.

To inspire healthier living, LIVE RIGHT NOW encouraged Canadians to sign up online at LiveRightNow.ca and register meals they shared with their loved ones. For every meal pledged online, CBC was able to feed a family in need, thanks to the generous support of Dairy Farmers of Canada, Loblaw Companies Limited and our partnership with Food Banks Canada.

“We are so proud to have reached this remarkable goal in less than three months,” said Julie Bristow, Executive Director of Studio and Unscripted Content, CBC. “The task was so simple, yet the impact was huge. LIVE RIGHT NOW has truly brought Canadian families together and helped evoke change in communities in a very meaningful way.”

“At Loblaw, we are committed to encouraging Canadians on their journey to a healthier lifestyle,” said Uwe Stueckmann, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Loblaw Companies Limited. “We are thrilled to see that Canadians are helping both themselves and others in need by creating better mealtime routines.”

“Eating together as a family is key to developing healthier food habits in children” said Nathalie Savoie, Assistant Director, Nutrition, with Dairy Farmers of Canada. “Dairy Farmers of Canada is proud to partner with LIVE RIGHT NOW to help Canadian parents become role models by eating more vegetables and drinking milk with meals.”

LIVE RIGHT NOW continues to engage Canadians all year long with seasonal themes, activities and goals. This Wednesday, May 1 marks the launch of the 30x30 Nature Challenge in collaboration with the David Suzuki Foundation. For the month of May, Canadians are encouraged to spend 30 minutes outside every day for 30 days in an effort to spend more time outdoors and connect with nature. Visit the hub of Live Right Now at LiveRightNow.ca to sign up for the 30x30 Nature Challenge, and to also take advantage of tools and resources for healthy living, including daily tips and challenges, blog posts from health professionals, helpful tools like a meal planner, recipes, videos, social networking and more.

CBC is proud to work with Canada’s leading national health and wellness organizations on the LIVE RIGHT NOW advisory board to provide Canadians with health information, support and inspiration they can trust: Active for Life, Breakfast for Learning, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Obesity Network, Dietitians of Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation, ParticipACTION and YMCA Canada. Canadian Living magazine also returns as a digital partner.
