Special encore presentation airs Sundays, beginning Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. (11:30 NT), on CBC-TV, complemented by special programming online at cbc.ca/doczone/8thfire
On the heels of the Idle No More protests and the meetings between Canada’s First Nations leaders and the Canadian government, CBC-TV presents a special encore broadcast of 8th Fire, a four-part series that explores the state of Canada’s relationship with Aboriginal Peoples. Complemented by an extensive website cbc.ca/doczone/8thfire, the series airs Sundays (Jan. 13, 20 and 27, and Feb. 3), at 11 a.m. (11:30 NT), on CBC Television.
8th Fire is a provocative journey through Aboriginal country, highlighting the urgent need to fix Canada’s 500-year-old relationship with its Indigenous Peoples—a relationship still mired in colonialism, conflict and denial. Hosted by Winnipeg-based CBC journalist Wab Kinew from the Ojibways of Onigaming First Nation, the four-part series offers us all the way forward—and a second chance at getting the relationship right.
With an energetic pace and stunning HD landscapes, 8th Fire propels viewers beyond prejudice, stereotypes and misunderstandings to encounter a surprising new generation of Aboriginal Canadians who are reclaiming both their culture and their confidence.
Plus, visit 8th Fire: Aboriginal Peoples, Canada & The Way Forward, a website rich in content related to Canada’s relationship with First Peoples.
