CBC-TV'S DOC ZONE EXAMINES SUPERVOLCANOS, COUNTERFEIT GOODS, ROYAL SERVANTS AND THE POWER OF WIND

DOC ZONE kicks off 2013 with four all-new documentaries: SUPERVOLCANO, COUNTERFEIT CULTURE, SERVING THE ROYALS and THE WIND RUSH

This January, CBC-TV’s leading documentary series DOC ZONE presents four all-new documentaries to help kick off the New Year. Learn about the ticking time bomb that is Yellowstone National Park’s SUPERVOLCANO, discover how fake consumer goods can harm, and even kill, in COUNTERFEIT CULTURE, find out what goes on behind the closed doors of England’s royal family in SERVING THE ROYALS, and discover why there is growing opposition to wind power in THE WIND RUSH.

Hosted by Ann-Marie MacDonald, DOC ZONE explores and expands on the major issues of our time. Informed, exciting and provocative, DOC ZONE presents a panoramic view of what matters most to Canadians.

Airs Thursday, Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV
Yellowstone National Park is located directly above one of the largest volcanic systems on Earth, a SuperVolcano. According to Geologists, this SuperVolcano is 20,000 years past due for a major eruption. No one knows when this will happen, but when it does it has the power to kill millions of people and leave large portions of the U.S. and Canada uninhabitable. SUPERVOLCANO follows scientists as they track seismic warnings and plan for the unthinkable.

Airs Thursday, Jan. 10 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV
Many of us have knowingly paid for counterfeit goods, whether it was a knock-off designer bag, a pirated movie or a fake watch. But do we realize that supporting the counterfeit consumer goods industry could harm, or even kill, those working deep within it? COUNTERFEIT CULTURE investigates the murky world of counterfeiting—a $500 billion industry that rivals the drug trade as the crime of the 21st century.

Airs Thursday, Jan. 17 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV
They iron the Queen’s bed sheets, polish Philip’s riding boots, squeeze Charles’s toothpaste and walk the royal corgis. They are the 700 men and women who serve the House of Windsor. Privy to the monarchy’s most intimate secrets, they are its biggest asset and greatest liability. SERVING THE ROYALS turns the spotlight on the royal ‘help’ who see and hear almost everything. Mum’s the word.

THE WIND RUSH
Airs Thursday, Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC-TV
Harnessing the power of wind to wean the electrical supply off coal and fight climate change seems like the perfect environmental solution. But a growing anti-wind movement says these giant turbines have gone up without sufficient research into health impacts. In the rush to embrace wind power, have the people who live among the wind farms been forgotten?
