CBC'S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA DELIVERS TOP AUDIENCE NUMBERS FOR ROUND ONE OF THE 2012 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS

Canadian hockey fans made CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA their definitive home for Round One of the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. CBC averaged 785,000 viewers aged 25-54, up 101% compared to TSN/TSN2’s Round One average of 391,000 viewers in the same demographic. Overall, more than 9.2 million Canadians aged 25-54 tuned-in to some part of CBC’s coverage of Round One, or approximately 62% of all Canadians in the demographic.

“Our Round One numbers demonstrated that CBC’s coverage is capturing the interest of hockey fans from coast to coast,” said Alan Dark, executive director of the CBC Revenue Group.  “Our advertisers know that the unwavering intensity and excitement of NHL Playoff hockey on CBC is simply unmatched, and we’re looking forward to what surprises Round Two will bring.”

The highest average audience in the 25-54 demographic for a single game was 1.45 million viewers for Game 5 between Vancouver and Los Angeles.

Fans are also engaging with CBC through multiple digital platforms.  During Round One, CBCSports.ca received 1.75 million unique visitors, while visits to CBC Sports mobile platforms were up by 43% over last season, with the HNIC App up 34%.
