CBC, AHL STRIKE BROADCAST DEAL

CBC Sports and the American Hockey League announced a one-year broadcast agreement on Thursday.

CBC Sports and the American Hockey League announced a one-year broadcast agreement on Thursday.

CBC will televise 10 games throughout the upcoming 2010-11 season, featuring AHL teams affiliated with one of six Canadian NHL clubs on Sunday afternoons.

“We’re looking forward to featuring the stars of hockey’s future with the AHL on CBC,” said Scott Moore, executive director of CBC Sports and general manager of media sales and marketing.

All games will be streamed live and also available on-demand at CBCSports.ca.

The first puck drops on Oct. 17, at 1 p.m., as the Toronto Marlies host the Binghamton Senators, the top affiliates of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, respectively.

The Marlies are featured in seven games this season, with Hamilton and Manitoba each playing four times.

“We’re tremendously excited that CBC, with its distinguished excellence in hockey broadcasting, will be helping us celebrate our historic 75th anniversary this season,” said David Andrews, president and CEO of the American Hockey League.

“Viewers across Canada will be treated to the skill and excitement of the best young professionals in our sport.”
