CBC Radio One kicks off the summer with fresh, new on-air and digital programming, including SLEEPOVER, the eagerly anticipated new show from DNTO’s Sook-Yin Lee; improvised radio storytelling from THE LIFE GAME; and three radio series created from highly successful original podcasts SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING, BACK STORY and CAMPUS. New to CBC Radio’s digital lineup is the original podcast LOVE ME, created by Wiretap producers Mira Burt-Wintonick and Cristal Duhaime. These programs join newly released radio shows Out in the Open and The Candy Palmater Show.

LOVE ME - New 30-minute original podcast Mondays, launched June 6 Deep down we all just want to be loved, so why is it one of the toughest things to get right? WireTap producers Mira Burt-Wintonick and Cristal Duhaime are the creators behind CBC Radio’s original podcast Love Me, which explores the messiness of human connection. It’s a love triangle between the most unlikely trio. It’s a son shielding his dad from a painful family secret. It’s a widow confronting her grief by dating her worst match. Through personal stories and playful fictions, we celebrate that weird little voice inside each of us that cries out, “love me.” Listeners can subscribe via iTunes or at cbc.ca/loveme
SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING - New 30-minute weekly Radio One program Mondays at 9:30 a.m. (10 NT) beginning June 27 Produced by CBC Radio One and launched as an original podcast in March 2016, Someone Knows Something rose to the number-one spot on the iTunes Canada podcast charts. Now available to listeners on CBC Radio One, the program examines unsolved cases of missing or murdered individuals. Hosted by award-winning filmmaker and writer David Ridgen, each season focuses on a single Canadian cold case with the hope of uncovering new information, while also exploring how the case has affected the families and communities involved. This season, Ridgen explores what happened to Adrien McNaughton, a five-year-old boy who disappeared without a trace near a lake in eastern Ontario more than four decades ago.
SLEEPOVER - New 30-minute weekly Radio One program Mondays at 7:30 p.m. (8 NT) beginning June 27 Sook-Yin Lee takes on a heartwarming social experiment in her new radio show. An antidote to 21st-century alienation, Sleepover brings listeners inside an unusual social encounter in which three complete strangers have agreed to meet in a hotel room for one evening, night and morning together. During each episode, with Sook-Yin’s guidance, one stranger takes the spotlight and presents a problem from their life. The other two offer advice and bring up related experiences from their very different lives. Listeners hear the progress of the entire sleepover event over three episodes.
BACK STORY - New 30-minute weekly Radio One program Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. (10 NT) beginning June 28 Back Story is about the story behind the story. CBC News correspondents take listeners behind the scenes as they cover the biggest news events around the world. As the story breaks, CBC reporters, including Adrienne Arsenault, Gillian Findlay and Mohamed Fahmy, share their personal reflections and experiences. Back Story isn’t just about reporting the news, it’s about living it.
THE LIFE GAME - New 30-minute weekly Radio One program Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. (8 NT) beginning June 28 The Life Game combines interviews with improvisation to create an electrifying radio storytelling event performed in front of a live audience. The format is the brainchild of Keith Johnstone, the godfather of improvisation and founder of the Loose Moose Theatre Company in Calgary, and has been performed on stages around the world. Each episode is based on one person’s life story—their successes and failures, hopes and dreams, love and loss—told as a live interview interspersed with improvised scenes.
CAMPUS - New 30-minute weekly Radio One program Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. (10 NT) beginning June 30 Launched in fall 2015 as CBC Radio One’s first-ever original podcast series and hosted by Albert Leung, the show is set on university and college campuses. Driven by first-person stories about the pressures to succeed, the threat of failure and the adventure of growing up, the program is a crash course on life at a time when everything is changing, as students return to school and get used to their new life on campus. THE CANDY PALMATER SHOW - New two-hour weekday afternoon Radio One program Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. (1:30 NT), launched May 30 Former lawyer turned comedian broadcast personality, Candy Palmater comes to CBC Radio afternoons with great conversations and music that is sure to be unpredictable, honest, funny and, above all, human.
OUT IN THE OPEN - New one-hour weekly Saturday afternoon Radio One program Saturdays at 3 p.m. (3:30 NT), launched May 28 Each week, host Piya Chattopadhyay and her team look at how one big topic is affecting regular people, and invite listeners to join the conversation. This is a show about bringing the difficult conversations we need to have “out in the open.”
