Canadian Paralympic Committee and CBC/Radio-Canada announce streaming coverage of Paralympic Super Series throughout 2019

- Series will allow viewers to watch Canada’s top para athletes
compete at key events between Paralympic Games

Ottawa & Toronto, January 10, 2019 – The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s Paralympic Network, announced today the launch of the Paralympic Super Series, a package of Paralympic sport competitions that will be available as live streams via the CBC Gem app and cbcgem.ca, as well as on the CPC Facebook page, with select events available on the Radio-Canada Sports app and radio-canada.ca/sports. The Super Series offers more than 50 hours of Paralympic sport coverage throughout the year – the most Canadian coverage ever offered outside of the Paralympic Games in terms of hours and number of featured events. The Super Series also marks the first time that CBC has offered coverage of Para Alpine and Para Nordic events outside of the Paralympic Games. The first event of the series will be the Para Alpine World Cup in Zagreb, Croatia from January 16-17.

“We are so excited to be bringing more live coverage of Paralympic sport to Canadians and continuing our great work with CBC/Radio-Canada and our media consortium partners in promoting the stories of our incredible athletes,” said Martin Richard, Executive Director, Communications and Brand, Canada Paralympic Committee. “Our audience reach has significantly grown thanks to the efforts of our media consortium partners, and it’s now a great opportunity to bring more content to our fans.

“Our athletes are competing year-round at important events like world championships and we want to bring those competitions to Canadians. Having these events accessible to watch in between Paralympic Games is a huge priority for us and will help build more interest as we follow the journeys of our Paralympic athletes.”

“As Canada’s Paralympic Network, we are proud to provide even more opportunities for Canadians to cheer on their homegrown Para athletes in a wider variety of sports,” said Greg Stremlaw, Executive Director, CBC Sports, and General Manager, Paralympics. “CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to sharing and supporting the stories of diverse Canadians, and our ongoing collaboration with the Canadian Paralympic Committee continues to allow us to shine a spotlight on these incredible athletes who represent the country on the world stage.”

Viewers will be able to follow Canada’s top Para alpine skiers throughout the season, including PyeongChang 2018 breakout star Mollie Jepsen and five-time Paralympic medallist Mac Marcoux. The Canadian Para alpine team won 10 medals at the Paralympic Winter Games last March.

Coverage of the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships in Prince George, BC from February 16-24 will also be available via livestream, featuring the world’s best Para Nordic skiers, including Canadian stars Brian McKeever, Mark Arendz, and Natalie Wilkie – who combined for 12 medals at PyeongChang 2018.

Additional sports and events will join the Paralympic Super Series slate as the year goes on. Viewers can add calendar reminders for live coverage of the Paralympic Super Series directly to their mobile devices through calendar integration tool CalReply.

All Paralympic Super Series competitions will be available as live streams via the CBC Gem app and cbcgem.ca, as well as on the CPC Facebook page.
