CBC/RADIO-CANADA ENGAGING WITH INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES ACROSS CANADA ABOUT BETTER REFLECTING INDIGENOUS CULTURES

Twenty engagement sessions will be part of the development of the national public broadcaster’s new Indigenous strategy

CBC/Radio-Canada wants to hear from Indigenous communities about what they want from their public broadcaster. Twenty engagement sessions are scheduled to be held between April 26 and September 27, 2022. The meetings will create a space for meaningful dialogue with First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in and out of the community about how CBC/Radio-Canada represents and reflects Indigenous needs, interests and cultures.

Fourteen English-language sessions will be organized by the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute, in partnership with CBC, while another eight will be held in French, organized by Acosys Consulting Services, in partnership with Radio-Canada.

“An important part of our mission as the public broadcaster is to provide services that meet the needs of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples. These engagement sessions will be an opportunity for us to listen and learn about those needs so we can address them in our content, workforce, workplace culture and relations with Indigenous communities," said Catherine Tait, President and CEO, CBC/Radio-Canada.
