GENEROUS BRITISH COLUMBIANS RING IN THE GIVING SEASON ON CBC’S FOOD BANK DAY

Annual event raises over $1.6 million dollars for local food banks

Vancouver, B.C. – The season of giving was in full force this weekend as British Columbians donated to food banks across B.C. for CBC British Columbia’s Food Bank Day. The annual event raised $1,628,996 for local food banks as of today, with donations open until the end of December.

CBC British Columbia livestreamed all of the special programming on all platforms throughout the day, highlighting stories about the impact of food banks across B.C. and the increasing demand for their services. This year, the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre once again held space for an intimate studio audience experience to watch free, live broadcasts of local CBC Radio One programs.

“Year after year, I am inspired by the generosity of British Columbians to give back to our communities amid challenging times,” says Johnny Michel, senior managing director, CBC British Columbia and Alberta. “With the addition this year to watch our livestream Food Bank Day programming, we are incredibly excited to be more accessible to audiences, and drive more awareness to an important cause this holiday season.”

For 37 years, British Columbians have been donating to food banks at CBC/Radio-Canada's annual Food Bank Day, raising more than $20 million for food banks in B.C. since its humble inception in 1986. The public can continue to donate to their local food bank at cbc.ca/foodbankday until the end of the month.

Additional photos from the event are available upon request.
