New to CBC Gem in September 2026

CBC’s fall season kicks off with returning comedy favourites North of North, This Hour Has 22 Minutes and the final season of Son of a Critch (Sept. 8), and a new season of Dragons’ Den on Sept. 17.
The Passionate Eye presents a new season of thought-provoking documentaries, including crypto industry investigation Everyone is Lying to You For Money (Sept. 16) from actor Ben McKenzie (The O.C.); TIFF 2026 selection Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple (Sept. 23), about the legendary late Rush drummer; and The Poison Seller (Sept. 28), a look at the case of Kenneth Law, who pleaded guilty to mailing a deadly poison worldwide.

The Truth and Reconciliation Collection will feature Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising (currently streaming) from Shane Belcourt and Tanya Talaga and exploring one of the first land-back occupations in Canada; Tautuktavuk (What We See) (Sept. 30), about two sisters embarking on a healing journey; and What We Carry (Sept. 30), a multi-generational investigation into a residential school teacher.

Acclaimed international series include the exclusive Canadian premieres of season 1 of Australian medical drama The F Ward (Sept. 1), the final season of Irish dramedy The Dry (Sept. 4), and acclaimed UK series Waiting for the Out (Sept. 25), following a man teaching philosophy in prison - where many of his family members have ended up; with new CBC Gem titles including both seasons of Bad Banks (Sept. 1), a thriller set in Germany’s banking world, and A Small Light (Sept. 11), following the remarkable real-life story of Miep Gies, a Dutch woman who risked her life to shelter Anne Frank's family from the Nazis during World War II.

Rounding out the documentary lineup are Surviving 9/11 (Sept. 11), reviewing the story of the 9/11 attacks on their 25th anniversary; reflections from the longtime artistic director of the Stratford Festival in CBC Docs original This Above All: The Theatrical Life of Antoni Cimolino (Sept. 18); and A Quiet Love (Sept. 23), in which three Deaf couples share their remarkable love stories through Irish Sign Language. September 1 also sees the launch of the CBC Docs FAST channel on CBC Gem and the CBC Docs YouTube Channel.
New unscripted offerings include Just Another Immigrant and Just Another Immigrant: Romesh at the Greek (Sept. 11), a series and a stand-up special documenting the international move of comedian Romesh Ranganathan and his family from the UK to Los Angeles; season three of Indigenous culinary show Chuck and the First Peoples’ Kitchen (Sept. 25); and the fifth season of Sort Your Life Out (Sept. 25), turning chaotic spaces into functional, stress-free homes.

CBC Gem’s slate of Canadian feature films expands with the critically acclaimed Universal Language (Sept. 11) from Matthew Rankin, set in an absurdist alternate reality; Sophie Deraspe’s Shepherds (Bergers) (Sept. 18), about a young Montreal advertising executive who decides to become a shepherd in the south of France; Ally Pankiw’s comedy/drama I Used to Be Funny (Sept. 25) starring Rachel Sennott; and Sherren Lee’s Float (Sept. 30), a romantic drama set on the west coast.

International films arriving in September are led by Eighth Grade (Sept. 1), a look at a 13-year-old’s last week of middle school; Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash (Sept. 4) starring Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton; The Florida Project (Sept. 4) from Oscar-winning filmmaker Sean Baker (Anora); Oscar-winning WWII drama The Imitation Game (Sept. 11) starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley; Armando Iannucci’s political satire The Death of Stalin (Sept. 25); and Beirut (Sept. 25), starring Jon Hamm as a 1980s diplomat.
CBC Kids series in September include On Track with Andre De Grasse (Sept. 26), sending the Olympic multi-medallist back in time to give advice to his younger self; the second half of award-winning fantasy series Iyanu season 1 (Sept. 11); new musical offerings from Jeremy & Jazzy Story Songs (Sept. 18); plus season 4 of superhero series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (Sept. 4).

Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising explores a courageous stand taken in 1974 by a charismatic young revolutionary, Louis Cameron, and a group of Anishinabeg youth at Anicinabe Park in Kenora, Ontario. The 38-day land-back occupation included members of the American Indian Movement, who travelled with warriors from Cache Creek, B.C. as part of the Native Caravan, which ended on Parliament Hill after police violently moved to end their peaceful demonstration. There is only eight minutes of footage from this occupation, June but Ni-Naadamaadiz: Red Power Rising unearths this buried history. The documentary feature made its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2025. The film is written and directed by award-winning Métis filmmaker Shane Belcourt and written and produced by acclaimed journalist and author Tanya Talaga, whose four part docuseries The Knowing, debuted at TIFF in 2024.
