THE SEARCH FOR CANADA'S FAVOURITE AMATEUR PIANO HERO RETURNS IN 2016

Pianists can submit their videos beginning January 11, 2016

CBCMusic.ca and IciMusique.ca are once again inviting all amateur classical pianists to enter the second edition of the popular contest, Piano Hero. Regardless of age or level, pianists may submit videos of themselves performing a piece of classical music here, beginning on Mon, Jan. 11, 2016. This year, the winning contestant will receive a Steinway-designed Boston professional upright piano, model UP-118S BOS, courtesy of Steinway Piano Galleries of Canada, plus a trip for two to Montreal from April 21 - 24, 2016.

The trip will include a private lesson with award-winning pianist David Jalbert, a video recording session produced by CBC / Radio-Canada at the Maison de Radio-Canada, two VIP tickets to the Orchestre Métropolitian concert on Fri, Apr. 22, 2016 and the opportunity to perform a pre-concert solo. Full competition rules, details and prizing information are available at cbcmusic.ca/pianohero.

The Piano Hero contest returns after a successful first run, where it received nearly 300 total video submissions and more than 86,000 votes. Calgary native Thomas Yu took home the 2015 grand prize, which included a Steinway-designed upright piano and a trip for two to Toronto, where Yu performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, had a private lesson with Emmanuel Ax and made a professional music video.
By visiting cbcmusic.ca/pianohero, Canadians nation-wide can watch the submissions and vote online for their favourite to determine the top 10. Along with fan voting, the competition will be judged by classical pianists Angela Cheng, Jan Lisiecki and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

The competition phases are as follows:

Now until Jan. 11, 2016: Amateur pianists, prepare your repertoire!

Jan. 11 - Jan. 21, 2016: Video submissions accepted
Jan. 21 - Jan. 28, 2016: Viewing and online pubic voting to determine top 10
